I say you don't have, to your hand you just won't drink it anymore, touch a little ten thousand and it's gone, in this matter we've been entangled for a long time, found many examples...。
中国有一个很跟国外不一样的地方,我们的艺术品基本上都是从实用品发展出来的,这很奇怪,但是要把这个事说清楚真的是绞尽脑汁,我举了很多例子,我说你千万的壶你还能喝茶,我 agree , you are generous, you are extravagant, I give you a stamp ticket and you paste it on an envelope and send it out, why bother? Now everyone knows that the eight-cent stamp sells for over ten thousand yuan, yesterday I sent a magazine from Yixing to me with stamps worth two yuan each on the cover of the magazine. I had to affix dozens of eight-cent stamps. This is why?
The reason is that these stamps were not originally intended for sending letters; similarly, purple sand teapots were not originally made for drinking tea. They must be something else.
In my almost ten years as an artiste potterman has been doing only two things: first distinguishing between purple sand materials and purple sand teapots; secondly classifying purple sand teapots.
My classification has yet to be fully accepted because when they introduce teapots they do not mention such classifications; they still talk about teapots being used for drinking tea; they still talk about goods with or without decorations (flowered goods), then Yixing craftsmen or styles... So I say if we don't classify purple sand teapots as art pieces how can we evaluate them by their craftsmanship? Why do we require these works to have meaning?!
How can one consider a pot an artistic piece?! The definition of art is one person's emotional expression which simultaneously elicits resonance in others - this is the definition of art! If your own emotional expression at home causes laughter or tears without anyone else noticing because no resonance is required there but on stage where everyone notices both laughter and tears become problematic as no one feels any resonance!
So as artists presenting our work we must evoke resonance! That six-word evaluation does not include standards for judging art so continuing to use six words to evaluate purple sand teapots indicates that no classification has taken place! If classified different standards must be established!
I hope through my articles people will understand what makes good quality pottery versus bad quality pottery!
